4th Ave & 55th St looking north (1914)

Description

4th Ave was designed to be a wide street and around 1898 the City planted hundreds of flowers, bushes and trees in the center of the road way.

But in 1911 it was all torn out to build a subway.
The subway cause the population to grow rapidly.

St. Jacobi's Church is on the left, and a horse drawn wagon is on the right.

This section of the subway was finished and filled in with soil.
